Hanoi to Ha Giang Bus 2026: Sleeper, Cabin or Limousine?

11 October 2026 · 9 min read

Hanoi to Ha Giang bus: a 16-seat limousine van outside Ali Hostel in Ha Giang city

The Hanoi to Ha Giang bus comes in five classes: a sleeper bus from 250,000 VND (about $10), a luxury coach or limousine van from 300,000 VND, a single VIP cabin for 350,000 VND and a double cabin for two at 550,000 VND, all one way. For most travellers the best pick is a night cabin bus: you sleep on the road, arrive around 04:00 to 05:00 and start the Loop the same morning.

We book the Hanoi to Ha Giang bus for our guests every day from our office in Ha Giang city, at the operator’s own fare with no mark-up. The prices and departure times below come from the timetables we book against, not from a forum thread. You will find what each class is really like, which one suits you, and how to line the bus up with your first morning on the road.

Which Hanoi to Ha Giang bus should you take?

The road between Hanoi and Ha Giang city is roughly 300 km, and there are dozens of departures a day in each direction, both day and night. The choice comes down to three questions: do you want to sleep on the bus, how much privacy do you want, and how tall are you?

  • Cheapest: the sleeper bus, 250,000 VND. Open berths in rows, blankets and air conditioning.
  • Best value for sleeping: a single VIP cabin, 350,000 VND. Your own enclosed pod with a curtain and a reading light.
  • Best for couples: a double VIP cabin, 550,000 VND for one cabin you share.
  • Best by day: a limousine van, 300,000–350,000 VND. Reclining leather seats in a small 9- to 16-seat vehicle.
  • Middle ground: the luxury coach, 300,000 VND. Berths with privacy curtains and a charging socket.

Once you know how you are getting there, the next decision is how long to stay. Our Ha Giang Loop itinerary lays out the 3, 4 and 5 day routes day by day, so you can book the return bus with the right date.

Hanoi to Ha Giang bus fares and classes (2026)

These are the one-way fares per person we book in 2026. Operator fares move with the season and the company, so we always confirm the exact Hanoi to Ha Giang bus fare before you pay. USD figures are a rough conversion at 26,000 VND.

What is each Hanoi to Ha Giang bus class really like?

Sleeper bus

The classic Vietnamese night bus: two or three rows of semi-reclined berths on two levels, with a blanket and pillow. It is the cheapest Hanoi to Ha Giang bus and perfectly fine for one night if you sleep easily. You take your shoes off at the door and carry them in a plastic bag, and big bags go in the hold underneath. There is little privacy, so light sleepers often regret saving the extra 100,000 VND.

Luxury coach

Same idea as the sleeper, but with 34 berths, a curtain you can pull across and a socket to charge your phone. If the cabins are sold out, this is the next best Hanoi to Ha Giang bus for sleeping through the night.

VIP cabin bus

The most comfortable way to sleep on the Hanoi to Ha Giang bus. Each cabin is a closed pod about 85 cm wide and 180 cm long, with a curtain, a reading light and a mattress you can lie flat on. Singles cost 350,000 VND; a double cabin costs 550,000 VND and fits two people who know each other well. If you are much taller than 1.80 m, the length is the catch: try a limousine seat instead.

Limousine van

The daytime Hanoi to Ha Giang bus of choice: a 9- to 16-seat van with big reclining leather seats, Wi-Fi and USB charging. You sit rather than lie down, so it suits daytime travel and people who get motion sick lying flat. Limousines leave Hanoi early in the morning and mid-afternoon, which makes them the pick if you want to see the countryside on the way.

Night bus or day bus to Ha Giang?

Many travellers take a night Hanoi to Ha Giang bus, for two practical reasons: it saves a night of accommodation and a full day of your trip. The catch is the arrival time. You roll into Ha Giang city in the dark, a few hours before anything opens.

That is why our tour guests rest at Ali Hostel free of charge from the moment the bus arrives until breakfast and the 09:00 tour departure. For tickets we book, the Ha Giang drop-off is at the hostel itself, so there is no taxi to find at 04:30. If you are not on a tour, a dorm bed costs 100,000 VND (about $4) a night.

A day Hanoi to Ha Giang bus makes more sense if you sleep badly on the road, if you are travelling with children, or if you want an evening in Ha Giang city before the Loop. In that case, budget one extra night and start riding the next morning. Not sure how many days to set aside in total? Read how many days you need for the Loop.

How do I book a Hanoi to Ha Giang bus ticket?

You can buy at a Hanoi bus station or through a hostel, but booking your Hanoi to Ha Giang bus ahead is worth it in busy weeks. Send us your date and the class you want, and we will:

  • book the seat at the operator’s listed fare, with no mark-up;
  • send you the operator name, Hanoi pick-up point and seat number on WhatsApp;
  • time the bus so it fits your tour start, and book the return for the evening your tour ends.

Bus tickets are paid in full when you book. Bank transfer has no fee; cards carry a 4% fee. Once confirmed, a ticket is non-refundable, but you get one free date change up to 48 hours before departure. You can see every route we sell on our bus tickets page.

Book further ahead around Tet and the autumn flower weekends, when night buses fill up fast. Our guide to the Ha Giang Loop during Tet explains what changes over the holiday.

Are there alternatives to the Hanoi to Ha Giang bus?

  • Private car with driver: door to door, and you can stop when you like. Good for families and small groups. A 7-seat car with driver is quoted per route on WhatsApp.
  • Straight from Noi Bai airport: if you land and want to head north the same day, see our guide on getting from Hanoi airport to Ha Giang.
  • From Sapa instead of Hanoi: there is a direct bus, so you do not need to go back through the capital. Read Sapa to Ha Giang for fares and times.
  • Riding a motorbike up from Hanoi: possible, but it is a long day of busy lowland traffic before the beautiful part even starts. Most riders take the bus and save their energy for the Loop.

Tips for a better Hanoi to Ha Giang bus ride

  • On any Hanoi to Ha Giang bus, keep a warm layer, water, a snack and your phone charger in a small day bag; the big bag goes underneath and you will not see it until Ha Giang.
  • Wear socks you do not mind showing: shoes come off on sleeper and cabin buses.
  • The air conditioning runs cold at night, even in summer.
  • If you get motion sick, choose a seat or cabin near the front and take a travel-sickness tablet before you leave.
  • Save our WhatsApp number before you board, so you can message us if the bus runs early or late.
