Night 0 · Hanoi to Ha Giang by overnight bus

The day

  • Board an overnight bus from Hanoi. It reaches Ha Giang city around 04:00 to 05:00 and you rest at Ali Hostel until breakfast. The bed is free for tour guests; the bus ticket is separate and we can book it for you.

Day 1 · Ha Giang, Quan Ba, Lung Tam, H'Mong King's Palace, Dong Van

The day

  • 08:00 breakfast at Ali Hostel and paperwork. 08:30 trip briefing on route, safety and gear. 09:00 ride north on Road 4C to Quan Ba Heaven's Gate for the view over the Fairy Bosom Hills, then down to Lung Tam to watch H'Mong women weave hemp on traditional looms.
  • Lunch en route, then the Tham Ma Pass switchbacks and the H'Mong King's Palace at Sa Phin, a 1928 mansion built by Vuong Chinh Duc. Arrive Dong Van Ancient Town, check in to the homestay and walk the stone quarter at dusk. Home-cooked dinner with the host family.

Day 2 · Lung Cu Flagpole, Lo Lo Chai, Ma Pi Leng, Nho Que boat, Meo Vac

The day

  • Ride north to Lung Cu, the northernmost point of Vietnam. Climb the 286 stone steps to the flagpole at about 1,700 m and look across the borderlands. Pass through Lo Lo Chai, a Black Lo Lo village of mud-wall houses right under the flagpole. Lunch near Dong Van.
  • Then the Ma Pi Leng Pass, the cliff road above the Nho Que gorge, with a stop at the Tu San canyon viewpoint. Ride down to the river and take the boat through the Tu San Canyon, limestone walls hundreds of metres high on either side. Back up to Meo Vac for a H'Mong family homestay and a home-cooked dinner.

Day 3 · Meo Vac, Bac Sum Pass, back to Ha Giang

The day

  • After breakfast, ride back through the pine highlands with photo stops on the ridgelines. Lunch at a roadside stop looking over the valley.
  • Over the Bac Sum Pass with a last look at the Fairy Bosom Hills, then arrive Ha Giang city in the late afternoon. Evening buses leave for Hanoi; we book yours if you like.
