Day by day

Arrival Night (Night 0): Ha Noi → Ha Giang

Board the overnight cabin bus from Ha Noi in the evening (approx. 20:00–21:00). Sleep on board as the bus climbs north, arriving in Ha Giang City around 04:00–05:00. Check in and rest at Ali Hostel — your bed is ready before sunrise.

Day 1: Ha Giang — Quan Ba — Lung Tam — H'Mong King's Palace — Dong Van

08:00 wake up, breakfast at Ali Hostel, and complete any remaining paperwork. 08:30 the guide runs the trip briefing — route, safety, gear. 09:00 departure north on National Road 4C, the road hand-carved out of the rock over eight years. After ~46 km, stop at Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate — a panoramic viewpoint over the Fairy Bosom Hills (Núi Đôi Cô Tiên), two near-perfect green cones rising from the valley floor. Drop into the valley to Lung Tam Village, where H’mong women hand-weave hemp fabric on ancestral looms — from retting the plant to natural indigo dyeing. Lunch at a local restaurant en route — a hearty local Vietnamese meal (rice with meat, fresh vegetables and soup). Ride the dramatic Tham Ma Pass switchbacks, then stop at the H’mong King’s Palace (Dinh Vua Mèo) in Sa Phin — a 1928 mansion blending H’mong layout with Qing-Chinese and French colonial stonework, seat of H’mong king Vuong Chinh Duc, whose family once ruled these highlands. Arrive in Dong Van Ancient Town — a UNESCO geopark settlement of century-old stone-and-timber shophouses along rock-paved lanes. Check in to your homestay, then wander the old quarter and grab a coffee in a courtyard café. Enjoy a home-cooked local Vietnamese dinner with the host family.

Day 2: Dong Van — Ma Pi Leng Pass — Meo Vac — Ha Giang

After breakfast, ride out of Dong Van toward the day’s centerpiece: the Ma Pi Leng Pass — one of Vietnam’s four great passes, cut into sheer limestone over six years. At the ~1,500 m summit the cliff drops straight into the Nho Que River Gorge, the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia, its turquoise water threading the grey rock far below. Stop at the Tu San Canyon viewpoint — the single most photographed sight in the north. Descend to Meo Vac, a lively highland town of H’mong, Tay and Dzao communities. Lunch in town. Begin the ride back to Ha Giang through Yen Minh’s pine highlands and the Bac Sum Pass, with a last look at the Fairy Bosom Hills from the road below Heaven’s Gate. Arrive Ha Giang City by late afternoon. Board the overnight sleeper bus to Ha Noi (approx. 17:00–18:00), arriving around 05:00 (bus ticket sold separately — we can book it for you). End of program.

This is only 2 days — is it rushed?

Dorm or private room?

Price includes a clean shared dorm in the homestay — great for meeting other travelers. Private room available for +300,000 VND/room/night.

Do I need a licence?

No — the 2-day tour runs as Easy Rider (you ride pillion with a local driver) or Private Car. Self-drive is not offered on this short tour for safety.
