Short on time but want the real thing? This is the Ha Giang Loop in two days, done the Classic way – a private en-suite room instead of a dorm, a richer route, and a born-and-raised local guide-driver.

Itinerary at a glance

Day 1: Ha Giang → Khau Lan Waterfall → Bac Sum Pass → Quan Ba Heaven’s Gate → Lung Tam hemp-weaving village → Tham Ma Pass → H’mong King’s Palace → private room at Lao Sa stone village.

Day 2: Lao Sa → Dong Van Ancient Town → Ma Pi Leng Pass above the Nho Que gorge → Meo Vac → Yen Minh → back to Ha Giang City.

Day 1: Ha Giang – Thai An – Lung Tam – Lao Va Chai – Yen Minh – Vuong Chinh Duc Palace – Lao Sa Village

Morning:
Depart from Ha Giang City and begin your journey to Khau Lan Waterfall, a hidden gem nestled in the forested hills just outside the city. After a short scenic trek through bamboo groves, you’ll arrive at this cascading natural wonder—perfect for a refreshing start to the day. Continue on winding roads to Quan Ba, where you’ll encounter stunning landscapes and the legendary Heaven Gate viewpoint, offering dramatic vistas of the Twin Mountains. Your next stop is Lung Tam Village, home to the H’mong ethnic group, renowned for their traditional flax weaving. Here, you’ll witness the full crafting process—from harvesting to dyeing with indigo and weaving vibrant textiles by hand.

Stop for lunch at a local eatery surrounded by nature. Continue your journey to Lao Va Chai Viewpoint, a lesser-known panoramic stop that reveals sweeping views over the vast valleys and ridgelines. Take a break to enjoy the serenity and capture some memorable photos.
Afternoon
Pass through Yen Minh, a tranquil town surrounded by pine forests and rice terraces, offering a peaceful glimpse into rural highland life. Continue your journey over the dramatic curves of Tham Ma Pass, a winding ascent known for its S-shaped switchbacks and panoramic views—an iconic photography stop in Ha Giang. As you descend, pass through Pho Cao, a charming village characterized by its ancient earthen houses and vibrant buckwheat fields (in season), where H’mong families live in harmony with the landscape. Then tackle the legendary Chín Khoanh Pass (Nine Turns Pass), famous for its sharp bends and breathtaking perspective over layered mountain slopes. Finally, arrive at the iconic Vuong Chinh Duc Palace, the former royal residence of the H’mong King. Nestled in a rocky valley, this majestic stone mansion blends Chinese, French, and H’mong architectural styles, telling a vivid story of ethnic pride and political power. Explore its grand courtyards, spiral staircases, and moss-covered towers to step into a bygone era.

Arrive at Lao Sa Village, where you’ll spend the night in a welcoming local homestay. Enjoy a traditional dinner prepared by your hosts, followed by the opportunity to learn more about the local customs and daily life.

Wake up in the peaceful Lao Sa Village and enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading out to Dong Van Town, where you can stroll through the historic Old Quarter featuring colonial-era architecture and bustling morning markets. From there, ride to the breathtaking Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the four great mountain passes of Vietnam. The winding cliffside road provides dramatic views of the Nho Que River and rugged limestone peaks.

Stop for lunch in Meo Vac, a remote yet vibrant town nestled in a valley between towering mountains. Enjoy a taste of local cuisine.
Afternoon:
Continue the journey through the lush valleys and forested hills of Yen Minh, known for its serene landscapes and small ethnic villages. As you ride toward Thai An, enjoy the peaceful rice terraces and the cool mountain breeze—a calm and scenic close to your loop ride. From here, begin your final descent back to Ha Giang City, taking in the last glimpses of this stunning northern landscape.
