The Lung Cu Flag Tower is not only a sacred symbol of sovereignty but also a pride for every Vietnamese, particularly for the people residing at the country’s northernmost point. Located in Lung Cu Commune, Dong Van District, Ha Giang Province, this flag tower has long been a popular tourist destination, attracting numerous visitors from both within Vietnam and abroad.

From atop the tower, visitors can admire panoramic views of the majestic northeastern mountains, fully experiencing the pristine and magnificent beauty bestowed by nature upon the rocky plateau.
The history of Lung Cu Flag Tower is deeply intertwined with legends and cultural tales of the ethnic minorities in the highlands. According to folklore, Lung Cu has been inhabited by various ethnic groups for centuries. Historically, whenever faced with foreign invasions, the local inhabitants would light torches as signals, gathering villagers to defend their homeland. This tradition makes the Lung Cu Flag Tower a powerful symbol of national unity, patriotism, and resilience of the Vietnamese people.
The current flag tower was constructed starting in 2009 and completed in 2010, standing about 33 meters tall. Its octagonal base is decorated with eight finely crafted reliefs vividly depicting the lives, labor, and culture of ethnic groups in the northern mountainous region. Atop the tower flies a large Vietnamese national flag, measuring 54 square meters, symbolizing the unity of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups and affirming the nation’s sovereignty.
Visitors reach the top by climbing nearly 400 stone steps winding along the mountainside, flanked by lush green trees. Upon reaching the summit, any feelings of fatigue quickly disappear, replaced by deep pride and emotion stirred by the breathtaking scenery and historical significance of the site.
Besides its historical and sovereign significance, Lung Cu Flag Tower holds immense cultural and tourism value. Every year, thousands of tourists visit this iconic landmark, significantly contributing to the economic and tourism growth of Ha Giang Province. Particularly during major national holidays, visitors and locals from across Vietnam gather here to witness the moment when the national flag is hoisted, accompanied by the resounding notes of the national anthem echoing through the mountains, highlighting national unity and pride.
